How to plan your bus trip
Kā rawe! Now you’re ready to take the bus, planning your trip is simple. Use our website to find routes, check timetables and track buses live, with handy tips to help you plan and travel with confidence.
There are several ways you can plan your bus trip - whether you know your regular route and you want to jump straight into the timetable or you're heading somewhere new and want to plan your journey from start to end.
You'll find real-time tracking of the buses across this site. Our GPS-based system provides live updates for trips that are en route - just look for the the Wi-Fi symbol next to the arrival time. Occasionally, connectivity issues or temporary route changes can mean times differ slightly from what you see online.
Journey Planner
The Journey Planner is great if you know your start and end location but you don't know the right bus route. You can plan your trip on the homepage or by going directly to the Journey Planner. Just enter where you’re heading and follow the prompts to find the best bus option for you.
Please note: Our school bus services don’t appear in the Journey Planner. If you’re looking for a school bus, you can use the search function to find a specific timetable, or head to our Timetables page to find the right school service.
Timetables & route info
If you already know your bus route, you can go straight to the timetable and route information. Head to the Timetables page and search by the route name or number or look through the lists of routes.
When you're on a timetable, you'll see the next bus is highlighted green.
On the route page, you'll also find Live Tracking - this will show the trips for the next couple hours with the real-time or scheduled arrival times.
Live Departures
If you're at the bus stop or on your way there, you can use the Live Departures tool to check how far away your bus is. Simply enter your stop and it'll show you when your bus is due.

School buses aren’t in the Journey Planner. To find your school route, go to the Timetables page and click the School Bus tab, or use the search to find your specific service.
Yes! Look for the Wi-Fi symbol next to arrival times to see real-time tracking of buses that are already on the road.

The green highlight shows the next bus coming up on that route – a handy way to see which bus is due soon.

We show all scheduled routes and live updates. Occasionally, temporary changes may occur, so it’s always good to check the alerts section before you travel.

Yes! Just click the star next to your bus route to add it to your Favourites. Then, whenever you open Favourites, your chosen routes and their next departure times appear instantly.
