Concessions
A concession is a discounted fare against the full adult fare. Community Connect and SuperGold Card concessions must be loaded onto a registered Bee Card prior to travel.
Infant concession (under 5 years old)
Free travel at all times, no Bee Card needed.
Youth concession (5-18 years old)
Discounted travel at all times with a registered Bee Card.
WITT student concession
Free travel for WITT students on Route 101 Hāwera - New Plymouth at any time during the tertiary school year. Students must present their valid WITT student ID to the driver.
Community Connect concession
Half price adult fare at all times with a registered Bee Card. This concession is available to Community Service Card holders.
When you order a Bee Card online (first card free, replacements $5) you will be asked for your Community Services nine-digit client number and date of birth. This information will be checked with the Ministry of Social Development and when validated, the concession applied.
The easiest way to do this is on the Bee Card websiteopen_in_new or you can call us on 0800 233 872.
If your dependent child (under 16 years) meets the criteria for a Community Services Card it is possible to add a Community Connect concession to their registered Bee Card. To do this, first contact Ministry of Social Development on 0800 999 999 and they will give you your child’s 9-digit client reference number. Note this number is different to what is printed on the child’s Community Services Card.
The Community Connect concession expires with your Community Services Card. You can renew it online by logging into your Bee Card accountopen_in_new, selecting the card and reapplying for Community Connect when you get a new card. If you have any problems, give us a call on 0800 233 872 and we can help get it sorted.
If you have a SuperGold card AND a Community Services Card, you will need two Bee Cards, each with a different concession. The Bee Card system only allows for one concession per Bee Card and you are entitled to two concessions.
Depending on the time of day you wish to travel, you will either use your SuperGold concession Bee Card (free off-peak travel), or your Community Connect concession Bee Card (half-price adult fares).
Use your Bee Card with a Community Connect concession for half-price bus travel during these peak times:
- Weekdays before 9am
- Weekdays between 3pm and 6.30pm
Use your SuperGold Bee Card for free bus travel during these off-peak times:
- Weekdays between 9am and 3pm and after 6.30pm
- Saturdays all day
If you travel during peak times, and are a SuperGold/Community Services Card holder, you may want to apply for a new Community Connect Bee Card. This Bee Card will be free.
You must tag on and off with the same Bee Card. For example, you can’t tag on with your SuperGold Card and tag off with your Community Connect Card.
Finally, it’s your responsibility to make sure you use the correct Bee Card at the right time. We recommend you mark one with a sticker or marker pen to easily tell the difference!
SuperGold concession
This entitles holders to free bus travel at off peak times, which are 9am to 3pm and after 6.30pm Monday to Friday, and all day Saturday with a registered Bee Card.
There are two ways to have your SuperGold concession added to your Bee Card:
Through a retailer
When you buy a Bee Card from one of our retailers, you can ask for your SuperGold concession to be added at the same time.
You’ll need to fill in a form and provide:
- Your SuperGold Card number
- Your date of birth (for verification with the Ministry of Social Development)
Once verified, your concession will be applied within approximately 3 working days.
Please note: If this is done for you, a Bee Card account will be created on your behalf, but you won’t be able to access it later.
Do it yourself
You can add your SuperGold concession by:
- Registering your Bee Card or logging into your account on the Bee Card website, or
- Calling us on 0800 233 872
